Holl Historic Achievement Award’ for renovating and preserving an historic factory for 21st century use. What started as a Interstate Hosiery Mill, among the world leaders in the production of silk stockings in the early ‘20’s, and subsequently became a fine knitting mill, Santarian’s clothing store and a furniture outlet, before falling into ruins, has now risen to become the Silk Factory Lofts Apartments, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a reminder of that golden era before nylon took over the silk industry. In the heyday of this era, more than 5% of all the silk stockings in the world were produced here in Lansdale.
